White Flood Review

|

White Flood is a pre-workout supplement by Controlled Labs. It comes in three flavors – bubble gum, furious fruit punch, and raspberry lemonade.

Claimed to promote:

  • Energy
  • Strength
  • Endurance
  • Focus
  • Muscle pumps

This product claims to deliver numerous benefits, so we’ve analyzed its contents to see whether White Flood lives up to these claims.

Take a look:

About the Company

Controlled Labs are a supplements company that markets a range of products, from fat burners to testosterone boosters.

However, apart from that we couldn’t find much information about them. White Flood can be purchased for $29.99 online, but some of their testosterone boosters are sold for $74.99 on their website.

The Ingredients and How They Work

White Flood contains ingredients that are common in pre-workouts, so they’ve not tried to reinvent anything with White Flood. However, just from looking at the ingredients list, we can see that L-Citrulline is underdosed in this pre-workout.

Let’s take a closer look and see how effective this pre-workout is overall:

capture

L-Citrulline Malate

This is a great ingredient to have in a pre-workout. L-Citrulline Malate turns into L-Arginine in your kidneys, which boosts your nitric oxide levels – resulting in widened blood vessels (vasodilation), increased blood flow and intense muscle pumps in the gym.

But you might be thinking, why not take L-Arginine directly?

Well, L-Citrulline Malate has a much better absorption rate than L-Arginine, meaning it’s more effective in raising your L-Arginine levels.

However, there is a problem with White Flood – the optimal dose of L-Citrulline is 6,000mg-8,000mg, meaning its been seriously underdosed in this pre-workout supplement.

We recommend looking for a product that contains 6,000mg-8,000mg of L-Citrulline to get the best value for your money, and ensure you’re getting a effective pre-workout.

Creatine Monohydrate

Creatine is found mostly in meat, eggs, and fish, but it’s also a molecule produced in the body.

Controlled Labs have got both the ingredient and dose right here – Creatine Monohydrate is proven to improve strength, endurance and mental function (memory and reaction time).

Beta-Alanine

Controlled Labs have made a mistake by including this ingredient in their pre-workout. While Beta-Alanine has shown to improve muscular endurance in the gym, it can cause paresthesia in doses over 0.8g-1g.

Paresthesia is a tingling on the skin of your face, chest, hands, and extremities. It’s not life threatening, but it’s uncomfortable enough to ruin your workout – White Flood contains a massive 2.5g of Beta-Alanine, meaning you’re almost certain to experience paresthesia.

We recommend staying away from Beta-Alanine to avoid the risk of paresthesia.

Betaine

This is a molecule that was first discovered in beetroot and regulates water balance in cells. It’s believed that Betaine offers cardioprotection and protects the liver, but nothing has been proven.

One benefit it can provide in a pre-workout supplement, is that one study has shown Betaine to enhance muscular endurance. However, White Flood already contains Creatine Monohydrate which is proven to deliver boosts in strength and endurance.

Controlled Labs should’ve replaced Betaine with an ingredient such as Beetroot Extract, which promotes great muscle pumps during your workout.

Taurine

Taurine is an organic acid that contains sulfur, and is found in high amounts in meats.

It’s most commonly used in supplements for it’s ability to reduce cramping in doses between 500mg-2,000mg – White Flood contains an optimal amount of Taurine (1,000mg).

Although it’s not key to a quality pre-workout, there’s definitely no negatives in including this in a product.

GABA (Gamma Amino Butyric Acid)

This is a depressive neurotransmitter that regulates depressive and sedative actions in brain tissue – basically, it’s important in reducing stress levels and providing relaxation.

For this reason, it’s used to relieve anxiety.

However, GABA can also trigger depressive episodes – so be careful when choosing to supplement with it. There’s no reason for it to be in a pre-workout, and we recommend avoiding it to avoid any risk of suffering from depression.

Controlled Labs should’ve replaced GABA with L-Theanine, which is a relaxing agent and works in synergy with Caffeine to form a ‘smart caffeine’ – this provides heightened benefits of caffeine (improved strength, endurance and mental function) without the risk of any side effects.

Dicaffeine Malate

This is simply a mixture of caffeine and malic acid. It’s believed to be more beneficial than caffeine anydrous – there are claims that you’ll avoid the risk of an upset stomach that some experience with caffeine in a very high dose.

However, nothing’s been proven to state that Dicaffeine Malate actually offers the benefit of keeping you away from an upset stomach. We recommend simply sticking to caffeine anhydrous, as it’s safely used in countless products worldwide.

Caffeine Anhydrous

Caffeine is consumed around the world in countless products such as tea and coffee. It’s proven to improve your strength, endurance, and mental function (memory and reaction time), as well as being one of the safest nutrients out there.

The only concern we have with the caffeine in White Flood is that there both caffeine and dicaffeine malate contained inside – this means that those sensitive to caffeine may experience side effects such as jitters, energy crashes, and insomnia.

We recommend looking for a product that contains  150-200mg doses of caffeine, so you can assess your tolerance before you increase your caffeine intake to over 300mg per serving.

White Flood contains some great ingredients such as L-Citrulline and Creatine Monohydrate, but also concerning ingredients like Beta-Alanine and GABA.

Side Effects

The great things about White Flood is that there are no proprietary blends (which reduces the risk of side effects as you know exactly what doses your getting) and contains a perfect dose of Creatine Monohydrate.

However, it also contains Beta-Alanine, which can causes paresthesia, and GABA, which can induce depression.

Here’s the potential side effects from taking White Flood:

  • Paresthesia – tingling on the skin of your face, chest, hands, and extremities (Beta-Alanine).
  • Depression (GABA).
  • Jitters (High dose of caffeine).
  • Energy Crashes (High dose of caffeine).
  • Insomnia (High dose of caffeine).

Pro’s and Con’s

Pro’s

  • Contains optimal dose of Creatine Monohydrate.
  • Contains L-Citrulline.

Con’s

  • L-Citrulline is severely underdosed (optimal amount of 6,000-8,000mg).
  • Contains potentially harmful ingredients like Beta-Alanine and GABA.
  • High dose of caffeine from the inclusion of both caffeine anhydrous and dicaffeine malate – both aren’t needed.
  • Not good value for money.

White Flood Review Conclusion

Controlled Labs have done well in some aspects, such as dosing Creatine Monohydrate perfectly. However, the rest of White Flood’s contents let it down.

The L-Citrulline in this pre-workout has been severely underdosed at 2,000mg (the optimal amount is between 6,000mg-8,000mg). Controlled Labs should’ve left Beta Alanine and GABA out of their pre-workout and chose just one form of caffeine (you only need either caffeine anhydrous or dicaffeine malate, not both).

We recommend looking for products that contains L-Citrulline in a dosage between 6,000mg-8,000mg for intense muscle pumps, and more beneficial ingredients for a pre-workout – such as Beetroot Extract (promotes muscle pumps during your workout) and L-Theanine (works in synergy with caffiene to form a ‘smart caffeine’, providing enhanced benefits of caffeine without any side effects).
