Performix PUMP Review

|

PUMP is a pre workout supplement made by Performix. It comes in 40 serving containers, in 4 different flavors – Blue Ice, Cherry Limeade, Tangerine, and Watermelon.

Claimed to promote:

  • Muscle pumps
  • Focus

This pre-workout is marketed as a “stim-free” product – meaning it doesn’t contain caffeine or any other stimulants. But this isn’t always a positive.

We’ve analyzed PUMP to see whether it’s effective or not. Take a look:

About the Company

Performix consider themselves as a premium supplements company, using their patented “Terra Intelligent Dosing Technology” in all of their products.

However, all of their products also contain proprietary blends, which are a bad thing – we’ll explain why below.

The Ingredients and How They Work

Performix’s PUMP contains one huge proprietary blend – what are these blends, and why are they bad?

Well, a proprietary blend is a mixture of numerous ingredients, shown to you as one quantity – meaning you don’t know the exact amount of each ingredient inside.

This can be a problem if you’re sensitive to any ingredients inside, or if any have been over-dosed, which will cause side effects.

But on a positive note, PUMP contains some key pre workout ingredients. We’ve analyzed what Perfomix consider the ‘key ingredients’ in this pre workout, to check whether it’s effective.

See for yourself:

L-Citrulline Malate

This is a key ingredient in any pre workout supplement. What does it do?

It turns into L-Arginine in your kidneys, raising your nitrix oxide levels and increasing blood flow – ultimately, this results in intense muscle pumps in the gym.

But here’s the problem – Citrulline Malate’s only effective when taken in 6,000-8,000mg doses. It’s impossible for PUMP to contain this amount, as the whole proprietary blend’s overall dosage is 4,928mg – meaning it’ll be ineffective in this pre workout.

Agmatine Sulfate

This is believed to reduce pain – but apart from that, doesn’t offer any benefits to improve your gym session.

Perfomix has shown their lack of research by including this Agmatine Sulfate here. Why? because it doesn’t interact well with L-Citrulline or L-Arginine.

Arginine Silicate Inositol

This is simply L-Arginine bound to silicate, and is believed to enhance muscle pumps in the gym. But there’s bad news – L-Arginine has a poor absorption rate, so isn’t effective when orally supplemented.

Also, it affects Agmatine Sulfate negatively, as it doesn’t react well with L-Arginine when consumed together. Performix should’ve done more research into their ingredients.

L-Norvaline

This ingredient is believed to enhance your nitric oxide levels, which would lead to improved muscle pumps. However, there’s been no studies conducted on L-Norvaline – so it’s not proven that to work.

It’s strange that Performix have advertised an unproven ingredient as one of their ‘key ingredients’ inside PUMP.

Ashwagandha

This herb’s been used in Ayurveda (traditional Indian medicine) for decades, to boost male fertility and reduce anxiety.

It’s shown to improve strength and endurance in the gym, which are good features of a pre workout. But here’s the problem – the exact dose of Ashawagandha isn’t provided, as it’s part of a proprietary blend.

Studies have shown that you need 2,000mg per serving of this ingredient, to experience it’s benefits – as the ‘performix PUMP blend’ only contains 4,928mg of nutrients, it’s unlikely to contain an optimal amount of Ahwagandha.

Pro’s and Con’s

Pro’s

  • Citrulline Malate is a key pre workout ingredient

Con’s

  • Every ingredient is part of a proprietary blend
  • Not given exact dose of each ingredient
  • Can’t be an optimal amount of Citrulline Malate in PUMP
  • Agmatine doesn’t react well with Arginine

Side Effects

There’s only one concern when it comes to side effects – Agmatine Sulfate doesn’t react well when consumed with Arginine.

As both of these ingredients are contained in PUMP, you might experience side effects like shortness of breath.

PUMP Review Conclusion

Performix really should stop putting ingredients into proprietary blends – everyone knows these blends are a gimmick to cut costs and make more money (they’re often filled with cheaper ingredients, with minimal effective ingredients contained).

What’s more, only Citrulline Malate is a key pre workout ingredient – and even this is under-dosed, so it’s not likely to enhance muscle pumps in the gym.

We recommend staying away from products containing proprietary blends, and choose a pre workout with more key ingredients. It’s also worth looking for a pre workout that contains 100% natural ingredients, so you stay away from any side effects.
