Myoplex Pre-Workout Review

|

Myoplex Pre-workout is marketed by EAS. It comes in 40 serving containers, in three flavors – Blood Orange, Lemonberry, and Red Apple.

Claimed to promote:

  • Muscle pumps
  • Focus
  • Endurance

This is one of the few products that contains a proprietary blend, where the ingredients inside aren’t shown on the ingredient list. But we’ll analyze the ingredients displayed, and see how effective this pre-workout supplement really is.

Take a look:

About the Company

Founded in 1992, EAS are a supplements company based in Ohio, USA. They market a range of products, from protein powders, to pre-workouts.

EAS were the company responsible for the first creatine supplement on the market under the brand name Phosphagen.

The Ingredients and How They Work

Unusually, this pre-workout supplement contains a proprietary blend that doesn’t provide details of its content – typically, proprietary blends hide the quantities of the individual ingredients inside, but still show you which ingredients are contained.

But you might be thinking, what’s a proprietary blend? Well, these blends are a mixture of numerous ingredients that are shown to you as one quantity (in Myoplex pre-workout’s case, 5.2g).

This is bad, because you may be sensitive to an ingredient inside, but if you don’t know exactly what’s inside in their exact amounts, you’re more at risk to side effects.

However, there are some positives to this product – it contains caffeine and creatine monohydrate, which are great additions to any pre-workout.

Nitric Oxide Blend

This is a proprietary blend that’s contained in Myoplex Pre-Workout. The worrying thing is that you’re not even shown the ingredients that are inside this blend.

This is extremely bad, because you could be sensitive or allergic to an ingredient inside, but you won’t know until you’ve taken the supplement and have suffered potentially harmful side effects.

We recommend that you stay away from proprietary blends in general, especially those that don’t show you the ingredients inside – you should know exactly what you’re putting into your body, to stay safe and know that the supplement is effective.

Nitrate Ion

This is the precursor to nitric oxide, which is important in dilating your blood vessels and delivering muscle pumps. It’s equally as effective as Beetroot Extract, which is a great addition to any pre-workout supplement.

However, the problem is with the dosing – at 200mg, Nitrate is slightly under-dosed –  meaning you might not experience its full benefits.

We recommend looking for a product that contains Nitrate or Beetroot Extract in 300mg-500mg doses.

Beta-Alanine

EAS should’ve left this ingredient out of Myoplex Pre-Workout. Although Beta-Alanine has shown to improve muscular endurance, it’s proven to cause paresthesia in doses over 0.8g-1g.

Paresthesia is a tingling on the skin of your face, chest, hands, and extremities – it’s not life threatening, but it’s uncomfortable enough to ruin your training session.

Myoplex Pre-Workout contains 1.6g of Beta-Alanine, meaning you’re very likely to experience paresthesia. It’s not worth suffering from this side effect, especially when there are other ingredients that can boost your endurance without risks of side effects.

Creatine Monohydrate

This is one of the best ingredients in Myoplex Pre-Workout – Creatine Monohydrate’s shown to boost strength and endurance in the gym.

There’s been countless studies conducted to prove its effectiveness, and it’s definitely worth looking for a pre-workout supplement that contains this ingredient.

Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP)

This is the molecule that carries energy to the place where it’s needed, fast. However, it doesn’t benefit your training session when taken directly, as it breaks down rapidly outside your cells, into Adenosine.

ATP hasn’t been proven to improve sporting performance when directly – this is why supplementing Creatine is more beneficial, as Creatine rapidly produces ATP.

Caffeine

Caffeine is one of the most beneficial nutrients a pre-workout can have – it boosts your strength, endurance, and mental function (memory, focus, and reaction time).

This ingredient is also one of the safest nutrients out there, consumed around the world on a daily basis in products like tea and coffee. Myoplex Pre-Workout contains a perfect serving of Caffeine at 150mg – this is a safe dose, so those that might be sensitive will still be safe from jitters and energy crashes.

EAS has done well by dosing Caffeine correctly.

Side Effects

The only ingredient that’s on the ingredient list in danger of causing side effects is Beta-Alanine – this can cause paresthesia (a tingling on the skin of your face, chest, hands, and extremities.

However, there’s also the problem of the proprietary blend, named “Nitric Oxide Blend”. EAS have hidden both the ingredients and their amounts, so you’re left guessing what’s inside.

We strongly recommend staying away from any proprietary blends, especially those that don’t show what ingredients are inside.

Here are the potential side effects from taking Myoflex Pre-Workout:

  • Paresthesia – tingling on the skin of your face, chest, hands, and extremities (Beta-Alanine)
  • Unknown side effects/allergic reactions (Nitrix Oxide Blend)

Pro’s and Con’s

Pro’s

  • Perfect dose of Caffeine (150mg per serving)
  • Contains Creatine Monohydrate

Con’s

  • “Nitric Oxide Blend” doesn’t show you what ingredients are inside or their exact doses – can cause allergic reactions or other side effects to those sensitive to any ingredients inside.
  • Nitrate Ion is under-dosed.
  • ATP isn’t very effective in improving sporting performance.
  • Not good value for money.

Myoflex Pre-Workout Review Conclusion

There are two positives about this product – it contains Creatine Monohydrate (which boosts strength and endurance) and a perfect dose of Caffeine (improves strength, endurance, and mental function).

However, that’s where the positives stop. Our biggest concern is with the “Nitric Oxide Blend” – EAS haven’t provided the exact ingredients or doses inside on the ingredient list, meaning someone who’s sensitive or allergic to any ingredients inside could experience serious side effects.

We strongly recommend that you stay away from proprietary blends, especially those that don’t show you the ingredients contained. You should look for a pre-workout that contains more ingredients like Beetroot Extract & Citrulline Malate (both promote muscle pumps), and L-Theanine (works in synergy with Caffeine to form a ‘smart-caffeine’, delivering enhanced benefits of caffeine without risks of jitters or energy crashes).
